Overview
Biomedical acupuncture and dry needling are cutting-edge treatment methods designed to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and enhance recovery.
By inserting fine, sterile needles into specific areas of the body, these techniques stimulate natural healing responses, improve blood flow, and release muscle tightness. Unlike traditional acupuncture, dry needling targets muscular trigger points to relieve deep-seated tension and improve movement. At the Orthopaedic Institute, our experienced physiotherapists integrate these evidence-based techniques into personalized treatment plans to address a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or seeking enhanced performance, our approach ensures effective and lasting results.

Therapeutic Ultrasound
Advanced deep tissue healing available at all four locations: Niagara Falls, Thorold, Grimsby, and Hamilton

Overview
Optimize healing and reduce pain with non-invasive soundwave therapy.
Therapeutic Ultrasound is a tried-and-true modality used to treat soft tissue injuries by delivering sound waves deep into tissues to promote circulation, reduce inflammation, and stimulate tissue regeneration. This non-invasive treatment has been a staple in rehab settings for decades, but when combined with skilled hands-on therapy and active rehabilitation, it becomes even more effective.
At the Orthopaedic Institute, we incorporate therapeutic ultrasound as part of individualized care plans for injuries like muscle strains, tendonitis, ligament sprains, joint stiffness, and post-surgical swelling. It’s pain-free, quick, and often used early in rehab to prep tissue for more active treatments.
Who’s it for?
Individuals recovering from muscle or tendon injuries
Patients with localized inflammation or swelling
Clients experiencing joint tightness or scar tissue build-up
People preparing for or recovering from surgery
Individuals seeking a gentle, non-invasive treatment to kickstart healing
Athletes with repetitive strain or overuse injuries

Professional Advantages
With experienced clinicians who understand when—and how—to use therapeutic ultrasound properly, we ensure this tool is never used in isolation. Instead, it’s layered into a comprehensive treatment plan built around manual therapy, exercise, and clinical decision-making. All four of our clinics are fully equipped with ultrasound units that meet the latest clinical standards.

Process – What to Expect
Your therapist will assess your condition and determine whether ultrasound is an appropriate modality. A small handheld probe is applied to the area using a water-based gel. Gentle sound waves are delivered to target tissues for approximately 5–10 minutes per region. There’s no pain, and most patients find it soothing—especially during acute phases of healing.
