Robert Dionne Feature Athlete Program
Celebrating Character, Leadership, and Excellence in Sport
Honouring Legacy,
Inspiring Community
The Robert Dionne Feature Athlete Program is a bi-monthly community recognition initiative established by the Orthopaedic Institute to celebrate local athletes who exemplify exceptional character, leadership, and athletic achievement.
Named in loving memory of Robert Dionne—a dedicated physiotherapist at NOI who passed away in 2016 at the age of 32—the program reflects Rob’s unwavering commitment to helping others and his embodiment of integrity, hard work, and compassion.
Selection Criteria
Athletes are selected based on a comprehensive set of criteria that go beyond athletic prowess:
- High-level athletic accomplishment
- Demonstrated leadership within the community
- Exemplary integrity, dedication, and work ethic
- Positive character traits in societal interactions
- Commitment to education and continuous learning
This holistic approach ensures recognition of individuals who not only excel in their sport but also contribute positively to their communities and personal development.

Supporting a Greater Cause
In honour of each recipient, the Niagara Orthopaedic Institute makes a charitable donation in their name to the ONE Foundation supporting the Walker Family Cancer Centre.
This gesture reinforces our commitment to community well-being and the values Robert Dionne championed.
