Overview

Biomedical acupuncture and dry needling are cutting-edge treatment methods designed to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and enhance recovery.

By inserting fine, sterile needles into specific areas of the body, these techniques stimulate natural healing responses, improve blood flow, and release muscle tightness. Unlike traditional acupuncture, dry needling targets muscular trigger points to relieve deep-seated tension and improve movement. At the Orthopaedic Institute, our experienced physiotherapists integrate these evidence-based techniques into personalized treatment plans to address a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or seeking enhanced performance, our approach ensures effective and lasting results.

Overview

Restore, relieve, and reactivate with targeted electrical stimulation.

Electrical stimulation is a safe, research-backed treatment used to support tissue healing, reduce pain, improve muscle activation, and accelerate recovery. By delivering controlled electrical currents through the skin or directly to muscles, this therapy influences physiological processes in the body—enhancing your rehabilitation outcomes and helping you feel and function better.

Our clinicians incorporate various forms of electrical stimulation into personalized treatment plans, depending on your condition and goals. These therapies are used in conjunction with manual therapy and exercise-based rehab to give you a complete, comprehensive recovery approach.

Types of Electrical Stimulation We Use
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS):
Commonly used to manage acute and chronic pain, TENS helps disrupt pain signals, providing fast, non-invasive relief without medication.

Interferential Current Therapy (IFC):
Designed to reduce pain and swelling, IFC uses intersecting waveforms to target deeper tissues. It's especially effective in post-operative care and sports injuries.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES):
NMES activates specific muscle groups to improve strength, reduce spasticity, enhance recruitment, and decrease tone. It’s frequently used after injury or surgery to rebuild neuromuscular control.
