Overview

Biomedical acupuncture and dry needling are cutting-edge treatment methods designed to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and enhance recovery.

By inserting fine, sterile needles into specific areas of the body, these techniques stimulate natural healing responses, improve blood flow, and release muscle tightness. Unlike traditional acupuncture, dry needling targets muscular trigger points to relieve deep-seated tension and improve movement. At the Orthopaedic Institute, our experienced physiotherapists integrate these evidence-based techniques into personalized treatment plans to address a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, or seeking enhanced performance, our approach ensures effective and lasting results.

Overview

Stronger. Faster. Safer.

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) therapy is a game-changing approach to rehabilitation and performance training. By using a specialized cuff to safely restrict blood flow to a limb during low-load exercises, BFR creates a state of metabolic stress that stimulates muscle growth and strength — without the heavy strain on joints or healing tissues.

This technique is ideal for clients recovering from surgery or injury who need to regain strength early in the process, and is also used for optimizing performance in athletic and aging populations.

How It Works
Using a controlled pressure cuff system, arterial inflow is slightly reduced and venous return is significantly restricted. This leads to:
-Increased muscle fiber recruitment
-Elevated growth hormone levels
-Reduced muscle atrophy during periods of limited activity
-Enhanced bone mineral density protection

And all of this is achieved with lighter weights and reduced mechanical stress — making BFR both safe and effective during vulnerable phases of recovery.

WHAT
They
SAID

After my ACL surgery, I couldn’t do much at first. But with BFR, I started regaining muscle and strength way earlier than I expected — and it felt safe. It was a total game changer for my recovery.
